Merlin 5 Digital Asset Management System
MerlinOne is excited to announce the release of our new feature-rich Merlin 5 digital asset management client. With literally dozens of enhancements including great flexibility in views, many templates to accelerate repetitive tasks (for searching, editing and cropping), and very fast performance even with huge datasets, the M5 client is a ground-up re-write to take advantage of many new technologies, and to future-proof the application. Of course, for current customers M5 is a free upgrade. Advanced support for audio and video assets is also available.
Image above: The video one-up window allows you to jump to the exact timecode (or multiple timecodes as shown here) in the video where the search term is spoken. The list of hits containing the search term are shown to the left of the video. Each hit is shown with its relative timecode and additional text to give the user context on how the search term was used in the spoken text. Clicking on any of the hits to the left, highlights the selected hit in a lighter gray and cues the video to the place where the word was spoken. This can save tons of time in that the video does not have to be scrubbed to find the word you are looking for.
M5 reflects an investment of about 5 person-years, and takes our world-class Merlin 4 software to new levels. It combines the lessons learned over 18 years of constant evolution with many customer-generated suggestions to give you a user interface that a novice can sit in front of and be productive, as well as one having great depth so a power-user will have everything they need at their fingertips.
Image left: Color coding conveys a lot of information about each of your assets in a quick glance. In this case, the green check mark indicates the item has been reviewed, the green image background indicates rights ownership, the orange diamonds reflect David Breslauer's name in the byline field, the red and green circles reflects specific information in the special instructions field. The colored shapes reflect values in up to four different defined fields.
The user interface is familiar enough to make it an intuitive switch, while giving you much more power over thumbnails, list views, and virtually all other elements. M5 is based on a plug-in architecture that allows for modular treatment of new features, robustness, and the ability to support future digital asset management workflows. The new M5 client exploits multi-core processors, allowing users to harness all of the power of their current computer.
