Web Hosted DAM Provides Secure and Affordable Solution for Dow Jones Media Groups to Consolidate Workflows

Quincy, MA, July 20, 2011 - The Cape Cod Media Group which publishes the Cape Cod Times and the South Coast Media Group which publishes the New Bedford Standard-Times have converted to the Merlin Hosted Digital Asset Management System and hosted Trax assignment management system to organize their published local and wire photo content with predictable, low-cost, monthly payments. The move to a web hosted DAM (digital asset management) system fit well with the two Dow Jones Local Media Groups' plans to consolidate production and workflows.

Jim Preston, director of the Cape Cod Times and project manager for the company said, "Merlin was the most cost effective system to unify our two newspapers' visual content and the consolidation of our design and copy desks. The hosted site option made it affordable with all the back-up and security we wanted in a system."

The Merlin hosted digital asset management systems are housed at a top notch data co-location facility with highly redundant power and network connections. As part of the move to the hosted environment, MerlinOne converted The Cape Cod Times legacy Software Construction Company system to the Merlin environment.

The Media Groups use the integrated hosted Trax assignment management system to initiate and manage photo, multimedia, and graphic requests, manage staff workload and track deadlines. As photos and graphics are completed and uploaded into the system, they are linked to the assignment and workflow status is automatically updated. After publication, assignment history, contacts, directions, usage rights, and publication data remains linked to the content.
