Quincy, MA, May 30, 2008 - Searching for video can be a challenge. Was it named correctly? Do you have the time to play the entire clip to see if it is the one you are looking for? Editors at Dutch National newspaper De Telegraaf will be able to search on any word spoken in a video to find just the right one and it will take only seconds!
De Telegraaf of Amsterdam, has ordered video asset management for its Merlin Digital Asset Management System that lets users actually search for words spoken in the audio tracks. With this powerful technology, De Telegraaf staff can find digital video files that contain specific words or phrases, even in Dutch! Merlin's video search results are automatically cued to the spot where the search term is spoken: this saves tremendous time that would have been lost to locating, mounting, viewing or jogging video clips.
The Merlin Video Asset Management System provides not only advanced searching, but gives editors the ability to monitor the status of the video through production stages as well as tag in and out points that get transferred to popular non-linear editors. The Merlin Video Asset Management System works like a video picture desk, making most recent versions available immediately for non-linear editors.
The video module will also be integrated with De Telegraaf's Trax. Trax is a web-based assignment management and budget tool that allows editors to get an overview of all parts of a package-whether it is a story, graphic, photo, multimedia slide show or video. Information from the Trax assignment management system provides additional metadata for managing video content.
"We learned through our newspaper partners that not only is searching an issue, but tracking the status of video is equally important. We added video assignment tracking to our Trax assignment management system that now makes video organization possible," comments Rande Simpson, MerlinOne Archive Business Manager.
Merlin's new web interface is optimized for video playback. Users who need to view content can use this tool to easily locate and play videos as well as view all print content. Projects, viewing linked content and saved searches are all available for even casual users.
The Merlin Video Asset Management System integrates with popular transcoders for a quick, powerful and scalable way to convert media between virtually any video/audio format and automate workflow. Transcoder integration gives users the flexibility to normalize formats on ingest into the Merlin digital asset management system or store videos in their original format and transcode when selecting destination newsroom systems.
De Telegraaf, the leading newspaper group in Holland, uses a redundant, fault-tolerant, Merlin Digital Asset Management System as a central shared system for 16 newspapers.
