Microsoft Office Integration Added to Merlin Digital Asset Management System

Quincy, MA, November 14, 2007 - MerlinOne, Inc has added seamless integration of the popular Microsoft Office Suite to the Merlin Digital Asset Management System.

Even publishers with professional editorial systems use Office to produce special projects, or to create business material to manage production. With all this Office content, our customers asked if they could use the Merlin digital asset management system to manage their Office documents along with related videos, photos, graphics and pages," said John Harrison, VP of Marketing at MerlinOne, Inc. Inputting Office documents into Merlin is just a simple drag and drop or FTP operation. Thanks to on-the-fly indexing by Merlin's Dox search engine, Office documents become immediately available on input.

Once in the system, finding Office documents is easy. Every word in a spreadsheet, presentation or text file is indexed for full-text search along with associated metadata. Metadata items such as keywords, date, time, project, status, rights, can be applied automatically on input, or updated later via the Merlin Mac/PC rich client or the Merlin web browser client.

If a user needs to edit or repurpose any Microsoft Office document already in the Merlin digital asset management system, they simply click and "launch" it into the Office application that created it. The new, revised document can replace the original, or be associated with it, to provide a document history.

Users can freely manage Office documents with any other content type in the Merlin digital asset management system. Again, just drag and drop documents into a project folder, to route to another department, for printing and so on.
