Quincy, MA, December 18, 2006 - The end of 2006 is an opportunity to take stock of how far the industry has come since electronic tearsheets came on the scene in earnest some five years ago. 2006 saw new milestones for E-Sheets® both in amount of use and in the resulting financial savings.
"As we go into the new year, the Merlin E-Sheets service hosts some 70 million ad records and 7 million PDF newspaper pages, all on-line and searchable, from over 1.5 million advertisers and 38,000 agencies. E-Sheets remains the largest and most used database of US electronic tearsheets," said John Harrison, VP of Sales & Marketing and MerlinOne.
"E-Sheets ROI is typically a year or less. Using conservative benchmarks based on user experience, we estimate that E-Sheets has saved the industry approximately $33,000,000 dollars over the last five years by newspapers sending E-Sheets in place of paper tearsheets," Harrison said. "These numbers are terrific, not only the extent of E-Sheet usage, but the financial return our customers realize as well."
"About 80% of large metro papers that use electronic tearsheets use E-Sheets from MerlinOne, such as Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronical, San Jose Mercury News, Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, Newsday, Boston Globe, Hartford Courant, Philadelphia Enquirer and Daily News, Baltimore Sun, Houston Chronical, Ft. Worth Star Telegram, Miami Herald, Ft. Lauderdale Sun-Senteinal, Orlando Sentinel, Kansas City Star, and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. E-Sheet's high volume is particularly important for metro advertisers and agencies. The large database means advertisers can get a global view of all their ads across multiple papers with one simple login," said Harrison.
This year saw many new users ranging from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution on the large metro side, to Hersam Acorn newspapers, a group of weeklies in Connecticut, and The Democrat a mid sized paper in New Hampshire.
