De Telegraaf of Holland Selects Central MerlinOne Digital Asset Management System for 16 Newspaper Group

Quincy, MA, March 19, 2005 - Dutch National newspaper De Telegraaf of Amsterdam and their subsidiary DataWire BV today announced selection of MerlinOne Inc.'s Merlin Picture Desk® and Merlin Universal Archive as a central shared system for use by their 16 newspapers, the leading group in Holland.

The Merlin configuration will be integrated with the paper's CCI Europe editorial & production system to store text, photo, graphics and pages. Merlin links together associated objects to make it easy to find related content, and share and manage it across the group. Once completed, the Merlin Universal Archive will be one of the largest central systems of its type.

"The Merlin system not only replaces the existing Central Editorial Archive and EPD application, but it gives us the possibility to work more efficient and more cost effective too" said Wim Kwak, CFO of DataWire BV.

"Users' tests proved to us, without a doubt, the benefits of Merlin's integrated functionalities are a great improvement for each publication. As a vendor, we also found the discussions with MerlinOne very inspiring. They listen very well to their customers and communicate pro-actively. Currently 130 newspapers have selected and are using the Merlin solution, that gives us a good feeling for the future".

The central Merlin system will use multiple servers and MerlinOne's MSync technology to create a redundant, fault-tolerant configuration. Servers will be physically located in two sites to offer geographic redundancy.

The central system will include Merlin Picture Desk tools for photo production. All wire and local images for daily production will be managed by the system, providing the staff with a single centralized location for its data, with a single application to quickly search for archived text, photos and graphics, and PDF pages as well as live photos and graphics for daily production. Installation is scheduled for 2005.

In production, De Telegraaf will flow published source content and PDF pages to Merlin automatically from its CCI Europe front-end system. Merlin's NewsML import filter parses tagged information from the incoming text files into the appropriate fields in Merlin for both full-text and SQL searching. Once in Merlin, PDF pages are automatically linked to stories and the accompanying photo(s) and/or graphic(s). Stories will be exported as XML files from Merlin to thirdparty vendors, for resale as well as for online use.
