Merlin Digital Asset Management Syatem Streamlines Workflow at The Spokesman-Review

Quincy, MA, March 19, 2005 - MerlinOne, Inc., completed a new automatic PDF page linking integration with The Spokesman-Review CCI Europe Newsdesk production system as part of the newspaper's text upgrade to their Merlin digital asset management system.

Merlin's PDF autolinking feature enables archive users to view with a single click the page on which a photo or story appeared. If the story jumped to other pages, users can view the jump pages too.

"It is a valuable enhancement, to be able to see, so easily, how an article was designed and positioned on the printed page," comments John Webster, Associate Editor, Administration & Systems at the Spokesman-Review.

In previous years someone who needed to see the printed page on which a story appeared would dig through microfilm or bound volumes of back issues. "We now have the ability to download a page PDF from our MerlinOne database, produce a high-resolution printout of the page and sell the printout to our customers," said Webster.

Photos and stories can also be selected when viewing the PDF page, making it easy to retrieve original content for re-publication or resale to the public or other news organizations.

Other benefits of the MerlinOne integration with their CCI Europe Publishing System, include automatically inserting for every published photo, graphic, story, and PDF page, the date published, the page number, the section letter, the zone, the edition and the published image caption text.
