Tribune Publishing Selects MerlinOne Next Generation Digital Asset Management System

Quincy, MA, June 9, 2003 - MerlinOne Inc. and Tribune Publishing today announced that the Merlin digital asset management system has been selected to replace AP Preserver installations at six Tribune Publishing Newspapers.

The Merlin systems will replace AP Preservers as the newspapers’ photo production and digital archive systems, breaking new ground in the integration of photo assignment and rights management, photo and graphics archiving, and content sharing. The Merlin digital asset management systems will also increase integration between Tribune Publishing’s photo systems and the video broadcasting systems used by Tribune Broadcasting.

"The Merlin system not only replaces the existing AP Preserver system but it gives Tribune a platform on which it can integrate text and page archiving into the same system and support content sharing with Tribune Broadcasting’s operations," said Darko Dejanovic, VP and CTO of Tribune Publishing and Chicago Tribune Company. "All of these are important capabilities as Tribune moves toward greater digital convergence across its newspapers and broadcast media operations."

Merlin Digital Picture Desk/Digital Archive systems will be installed at The Chicago Tribune, Ft. Lauderdale Sun Sentinel, Orlando Sentinel, Baltimore Sun, Hartford Courant, and Newport News Daily Press.

"We’re thrilled that Tribune has selected us to be their partner in the replacement of their AP Preserver systems," said David Tenenbaum, CEO of MerlinOne. "Further, our relationship with Tribune will result in leaps forward to support digital convergence, enterprise content sharing, and tight newsroom integration."
